Advanced PVs: PV System Design and Installation
(2 days)
In this two-day course, taught by Dan Chiras, Ph.D., author of Power from the Sun, Solar Electricity Basics, and The Homeowner’s Guide to Renewable Energy, students will size, site, and design two PV systems, a grid-connected system and a grid-connected system with battery backup, using electrical consumption data from two real life customers.
Students will view slides of -- or visit -- similar installations (time permitting) once their design work is complete. Participants will assess the solar resource and then size and site arrays and battery banks. Students will also size other components, including conductors, fuses, breakers, inverters, and charge controllers.
This course qualifies for MREA's Continuing Education Credits for Certified Site Assessors.
