 Hands-On Natural Plasters (2 days)

In this two-day hands-on course, participants will learn how to make and apply two ypes of natural plasters, earthen and lime plasters, both used on natural homes made from straw bales, adobe, cob, and other natural materials with internationally renowned author and green building expert, Dan Chiras, author of The Natural Plaster Book and The Natural House.  Students will work with base coat and finish coat plasters and pigments and will have plenty of opportunities to learn to apply plasters by hand and with a trowel. We will plaster a straw bale building erected at The Evergreen Institute's educational center in Gerald, MO.

This course qualifies for continuing education credits through the US Green Building Council and GBCI for LEED Accredited Professionals.


In this workshop, participants will learn:

    •    The main components of natural plasters
    •    Ways to create the perfect mix from subsoil on your property
    •    Easy ways to mix natural and lime plasters
    •    Steps required to prepare walls for plaster
    •    How to hand apply plaster to natural materials
    •    Proper application of scratch, brown, coats, and finish coats
