Certificate Programs
The Evergreen Institute offers certificates in Residential Green Building, Residential Renewable Energy, and Renewable Energy Educator. Our Certificate Programs are designed for individuals, including educators, who are interested in pursuing careers in green building and/or renewable energy and renewable energy education or furthering their credentials in these burgeoning fields.
Our Residential Renewable Energy and Green Building Certificates are tailored to consultants, renewable energy professionals, builders, developers, architects, and students of architecture.
Our Renewable Energy Educator Certificate is designed for instructors at technical colleges, community colleges, and four-year institutions as well as individuals who would like to teach through nonprofit and for-profit educational centers.
Those interested in qualifying for the Residential Green Building Certificate or Residential Renewable Energy Certificate must complete all coursework and pass an exam for each course, all of which are administered by The Evergreen Institute.
Those interested in qualifying for the Renewable Energy Educator Certificate must complete all coursework required for the Residential Renewable Energy Certificate and pass an exam for each course, all of which are administered by The Evergreen Institute. Students may take classes at The Evergreen Institute or make arrangements for classes to be offered by Dr. Chiras at their educational facility, provided multiple faculty can attend. REE Certificate candidates may license copies of educational materials, including PowerPoints developed by Dr. Chiras of The Evergreen Institute, for a fee. Call for more information, including fees.
Courses can be taken at through Evergreen Institute at our educational center in Gerald, Missouri. Relevant courses offered by the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (www.thre-mrea.org) and online courses offered by the University of Colorado’s Continuing Education Program (http://conted.colorado.edu/programs/independent-learning/sustainable-practices/) may also apply toward the Residential Green Building Certificate. Residential Renewable Energy Certificate (required coursework)
Individuals interested in qualifying for the Residential Renewable Energy Certificate must complete and pass the following courses. Students must complete either the PV, wind, or solar hot water track.
Residential Renewable Energy (2 credits) Home Energy Efficiency (1 credit) Passive Solar Heating and Cooling (2 credits) Basic Photovoltaics (1 credit) Intro to Wind (1 credit) Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems (1 credit)
PV Track Intermediate PVs (2 credits) PV Design and Installation Laboratory (4 credits) or Advanced PVs: PV Installation (5 credits) PV Site Assessment (1 credit)
Wind Track
Intermediate Wind and Wind Site Assessment (through The Evergreen Institute) or Wind Site Assessment (through MREA) (4 credits) Wind Turbine Design Considerations (4 credits) Small Wind Turbine Installation (5 credits)
Solar Hot Water
Intermediate Solar Hot Water or Solar Water Heating Installation Lab – through MREA (3 credits) Solar Hot Water Installation – through MREA (4 credits) Solar Domestic Hot Water Site Assessment – through MREA (1 credit)

Residential Green Building Certificate
Those interested in qualifying for the Green Building Certificate must complete and pass the following courses:

Renewable Energy Educator Certificate (required coursework)
Individuals interested in qualifying for the Renewable Energy Educator Certificate must complete and pass the courses required for a Residential Renewable Energy Certificate. Students must complete either the PV, wind, or solar hot water track or may custom tailor a program to their needs in conjunction with TEI. Students enrolled in this program must complete at least two installations or design and installation labs in their area of concentration.
Those individuals who are not currently employed as a teacher must complete a half-day education workshop that teaches students how to make effective PowerPoints and become a more effective teacher.
Students may elect to license PowerPoints developed by The Evergreen Institute for private use. PowerPoint slide shows are available for $1000 for one-day classes and $1750 for two-day classes. This entitles the licensee to use and modify the slide show for his or her classes. PowerPoints cannot be reproduced and sold or traded or offered to any other instructor. Multiple-instructor licensing fees are available upon request.
Those enrolled in the education program who want to license a PowerPoint are given a copy of PowerPoints prior to class and may annotate the presentation, provided they bring their own laptops. Individual instruction may also be scheduled for teachers to provide more time to annotate slide shows for their course.

Enrollment and Fees To enroll in a certificate program, please e-mail us at info@evergreeninstitute.org or call us at (303) 883-8290. For Residentail Renewable Energy and Green Building Certificates we charge $250 fee for record keeping, exam preparation and grading, and other costs. For Renewable Energy Education Certificate, the enrollment fee is $350. Payment is due upon enrollment. Remember that students must take an exam after each required course.
